I’m a few days behind on my DVR, so last night I finally watched the most recent episode of “Hacks.” No spoilers below, and even if you’ve never seen the show (you should, btw), if you love incredible mansions, you’ll still enjoy this article.

In the most recent episode of “Hacks” (season 5 episode 7), Hannah Einbinder and Jean Smart’s characters (Ava Daniels and Deborah Vance) visit a home belonging to a rival comedian, played by Cherry Jones, and her younger girlfriend, played by Leslie Bibb.

After finishing the episode, I immediately went down a rabbit hole searching for the house. I got lost for about 20 minutes scouring Montecito Zillow for properties that were recently listed or sold that fit the description. I had a hunch the home had been recently listed for sale because those are much more likely to be rented out for productions.

Thanks to a tip from someone I saw in a Reddit comment, I learned the house is actually in… Malibu. With that crucial puzzle piece, I found the home in about 2 minutes. Here it is:

Spanning 1.3 acres, this estate dates back to 1972. There are just over 7,000 square feet of living space, five bedrooms, and six bathrooms. The current owners are Steve and Vanessa Alexander. Vanessa is an interior designer whose work has been featured in numerous glossy publications, including Architectural Digest. Steve is a producer and talent manager. During his time as a talent manager, he represented A-list actors such as Heath Ledger, Jeff Bridges, John Travolta, Josh Hartnett, and Natalie Portman.

Steve and Vanessa paid $5.2 million for the property in June 2017 and then proceeded to perform a multi-year full renovation. They listed the property in July 2024 for $28 million, dropped the price a few times, down to a low of $22 million, before taking it off the market last October. Here is a more thorough (18-minute) video tour given by Vanessa personally back in August 2024:
